John is the lead manager of the firm’s Real Estate Debt Strategy and co-portfolio manager of the Real Estate Securities Strategy, which invests primarily in equity real estate investment trusts (REITs). As a company spokesperson on real estate issues, John is featured in local and national media outlets throughout the year. John has also appeared on a number of business programs for CNBC TV’s “Squawk Box” and Bloomberg TV. John’s background features a unique blend of nearly four decades of experience in public policy, urban planning, real estate finance and valuation, and portfolio management. In 1973, he began working for the city of St. Paul’s finance department, serving in a number of roles in property assessment and valuation, planning and economic development. A decade later, John joined the financial services industry as a mortgage banker at Norwest Mortgage and then as a public finance investment banker focused on housing and government projects for Miller & Schroeder Financial. He also worked for the Minneapolis Community Development Agency managing several of its finance departments including the commercial real estate and housing revenue bond programs. John joined the firm in 1992 as a portfolio manager forfour real estate debt closed-end funds. He took over management of the firm’s equity Real Estate Securities Strategy in October 1999. He was also a member of the teams that launched the Global Infrastructure Strategy in 2007 and the Real Asset Income Strategy in 2011. John earned a B.A. in public administration from Metropolitan State University and an M.B.A. in financefrom the University of St. Thomas. | ||
